"I'd
call ... [my artistic style] Impressionistic Realism.
"I always loved art classes,
limited though they were, in elementary and high school. In
college I majored in physical therapy and minored in history, so it
wasn't until I was kept at home with young children that I again turned
to painting. As the children grew older and I returned to work, I
had very little time to devote to art. The 'empty next' stage
brought me back, but it wasn't until I retired in 2004 that I was able
to spend more time painting and taking classes.
"I graduated cum laude
from the University of Michigan, by my studies were in science and
history. My post-graduate work at the University of California at
Riverside and California State San Bernardino was related to business
and gerontology, a I owned my own physical therapy business and
specialized in the older population. Thus I had no formal art
training, but since retirement I have taken classes locally with Sheila
Savannah, Eric Slayton, Doug Miley, Maureen Anderson, David Haskell, and
Pat Hould. The group of friends that I paint with every Wednesday
has also airded in my development, as they are always willing to suggest
ways I can improve - plus they inspire me with their very substantial
artistic skills.
"My work has been shown in the
Mountain Artists Gallery and the Gallery of Prescott Fine Arts
Association. I also have art hanging in the five local Bradshaw
Mountain Labs.
"Beside MAG [Mountain Artists
Guild, Inc.] I also belong to the Southwest Artists Association." |
